We Serve.

Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. More than 1.4 million members in over 48,000 clubs are serving in 200 countries and geographic areas around the globe.

Since 1917, Lions have strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects, and we extend our service impact through the generous support of our Lions Clubs International Foundation. We are focused on supporting vision, the environment, childhood cancer, hunger, diabetes and other pressing humanitarian needs to help address some of the biggest challenges facing humanity. Here at Denby Dale District Lions we are one of the largest clubs in Yorkshire, with a thriving membership of around 35 like minded people. The Lions motto “We Serve” applies well to our charitable activities, with much support for local causes.

Denby Dale District Lions Club was formed in 1979 and we currently have 31 members ranging in age from early twenties to mid eighties! The Club is a charitable incorporated organization (CIO) registered with the Charities Commission (no. 1179388). All of our members are volunteers giving up their spare time without charge.

Each year the club organizes fundraising activities including;

  • Santa’s sleigh touring local villages, schools, playgroups and care homes.

  • Christmas Fair

  • Beer Festivals/Beer Tent

  • Denby Dale Scarecrow Trail

  • Emley Show Coconut Shy

  • School Summer Fairs

  • Christmas and Easter Hampers

The emphasis in all of our fundraising events is on having FUN!

We also undertake Community Service projects that involve practical assistance rather than monetary donations, including the loan of our tents and BBQ equipment to charities and voluntary organisations.

We are a sociable group and we organize monthly social events to which partners, family and friends are invited.

To get involved email us at secretary@denbydalelions.co.uk or message us on our facebook page! We will be pleased to hear from you.

History

Lions Club International is the world’s largest service organization with around 46,000 Clubs and more than 1.4 million members working with their local communities in over 200 countries around the world.

Its founding is credited to the initiative of Chicago businessman, Melvin Jones who, seeing increased poverty and social problems after the First World War, envisaged a new type of service-centred club where members would put their talents to work to improve their local communities.

The Association of Lions Clubs was formed at a meeting on 7 June 1917 in Chicago. The desire to serve others was compelling and on 12 March 1920 the first Club outside of the US was formed in Canada. Since then Lions Clubs have sprung-up around the world at an ever increasing pace and continues to expand its service across the globe. Lions Club International celebrated its centenary in 2017 and continues to go from strength to strength.

Today, in the UK HRH The Countess of Wessex is a Royal Patron of the Lions Clubs of the British Isles.
