Emley Show, August 2025

Emley Show is always a great event to have in any calendar so that’s why it has become a regular fundraising day for us at Denby Dale District Lions Club! It’s one of the biggest agricultural shows in Yorkshire and attracts thousands of people every year from far and wide.

Our Coconut Shy is now a regular feature at the show and what a brilliant day we had this year! The weather was glorious, our Coconut Shy was as popular as ever and we were kept busy all day by people wanting to try their luck! Prizes of cuddly lions , lion chocolate bars and lollies were on offer for the lucky winners and free bottles of water were also given out courtesy of Shepley Spring. We even had a visit from the Kirklees Lady Mayor who stopped by to talk to us. Our mascot Rory the Lion was also on hand to meet and greet people as they passed by and he is now in many people’s photo albums!

All in all it was a fantastic day of fundraising!

Over the last few years we have also got involved with helping the show’s organisers by up the 95 or so show signs around the local villages. A task that we are happy to perform!

All proceeds this time will go to one of our chosen charities The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice who we are proud to support. We are already looking forward to doing it all again next year!!
